The Consumer Product Safety Commission and retail giant Target Corp. announced yesterday a recall of Chefmate branded blenders. The blender's plastic pitcher can separate from the blade assembly while in use, posing the risk of cutting the blender's user.

The CPSC and Target have received 11 reports—seven of which involved serious cuts to consumers' fingers—of the flawed counter-top blenders coming apart during use.

The recall affects Chefmate 6-speed blenders, model BL-10, which feature a six-inch tall white motorized base with six buttons. (The model number is imprinted on the bottom of the motor unit.) The clear plastic pitcher features a white cap along with a white plastic base which holds the blender's two angled, stainless steel blades.

Approximately 304,000 of the blenders, made by Select Brands of Lenaxa, Kansas, were sold for about $14 at Target retail outlets nationwide from September 2007 to February 2011.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the faulty Chefmate blenders and return them to a Target store for a full refund.
