Check your house for these unsafe home heating products
Dec 27, 2011 10:00 AM

The winter season officially started last Thursday for the Northern Hemisphere. But as you prepare to crank up your home's thermostat or break out the space heater, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says make sure the device isn't on the agency's naughty list.

The CPSC reminds consumers that the following home heating products were recently recalled by their makers and the safety regulators:

Meijer Touch Point Oscillating Ceramic Heaters
13,000 were recalled in July, which followed a November 2010 recall of 6,700 heaters that can short out electrically. The CPSC received at least two reports of fires caused by the faulty Meijer heaters.

Flow Pro, Airtech, Aloha Breeze & Comfort Essentials Heaters
More than 2 million of these space heaters were recalled last December after Walmart received dozen of reports of overheating, smoking, burning and melting units. Injuries were reported in four incidents, three of which required medical attention for minor burns and smoke inhalation. The CPSC said last year there were nearly a dozen incidents where the "property damage [extended] beyond the heater."

Lasko Portable Electric Heaters
In February, 107,500 Lasko heaters were recalled for fire hazards. Consumer Reports noted that just a week prior to the Lasko recall, EdenPure space heaters were recalled as well. And the week after the Lasko heater recall, 92,000 TrueLiving heater fans and quartz radiant heaters were recalled for overheating issues.

Honeywell Electric Baseboard and Fan Heater Thermostats
It's not just space heaters that consumers have to worry about. In July, about 77,000 Honeywell thermostats were recalled for the risk of overheating.

GE Zoneline Air Conditioners and Heaters
More than 90,000 were recalled for fire risks also.
