Coffeemakers that make it easy to jumpstart your morning
Feb 7, 2013 10:00 AM

For some coffee drinkers, there are two states of existence—either "I have coffee" or "I need coffee." If you're someone who wants a coffeemaker without all the bells and whistles, especially first thing in the morning, two of the five drip coffeemakers we've just added to our coffeemaker Ratings are for you.

Both the $20 Better Chef 91575783M and the $35 Bella Dots Collection 12-cup dispense with the how and when and get right to the now. You won't find small-batch settings or brew-strength controls, and neither is programmable. For the Better Chef, you get a single red on/off on an otherwise black-plastic machine. The Bella Dots is even more direct—a sole button with the word "brew."

You might think such bare-bones machines would rank low in our Ratings, which add points for features we consider convenient or take them away for features we find cumbersome. But although the Bella didn't quite make it onto our list of top picks, it scored impressively across the board. It also comes in seven colors besides the lime-green model we tested.
