Baby bottle manufacturers to stop using BPA
Mar 9, 2009 11:24 AM

Baby bottle image2 The Washington Post last week reported that “the six largest manufacturers of baby bottles will stop selling bottles in the United States made with bisphenol A” (BPA).

The news comes just days after Suffolk County, NY became the first jurisdiction to pass a ban on the sale of such products in the U.S.

BPA is commonly found in polycarbonate baby bottles and sport bottles as well as in the lining of canned foods. Studies suggest that the chemical can mimic estrogen and may be linked to cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, reproductive abnormalities, and other health problems in children and adults. Canada has also passed a ban on some items containing BPA.
