Amby Baby has recalled 24,000 "motion" hammocks after a 4-month-old girl in Lawrenceville, Ga. died in a baby hammock and a 5-month-old boy from Gresham, Ore. suffocated.
When the hammock shifts or tilts from side to side, an infant can roll and become entrapped or wedged against the hammock’s fabric and/or mattress pad and suffocate. The products were sold online at Ambybaby.com and other retailers from January 2003 through October 2009 for about $250. (Learn more about cribs.)
Parents are urged to find an alternative, safe sleeping environment for their baby by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which issued the recall notice. (See What to do if your baby's crib is recalled.) For more information, contact Amby Baby USA at (866) 544-9721 between 9 a.m. and 5p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s Web site at www.ambybaby.com.
