The 101st edition of the Chicago Auto Show begins today with a media and industry preview; McCormick Place opens its massive halls to the public on Friday. We will share highlights from the event here in the blog, with the key product announcements covered in our special Chicago Auto Show section.
It promises to be an unusual event, impacted by the auto industry’s ongoing struggles. Ordinarily, Chicago suffers from being caught between the Detroit and New York auto shows. This year, it may be economic woes that impact it more.
While press conferences are scheduled throughout at least the first day, true breakthrough product unveilings may be few and far between. Ford is the front runner for making a splash at the show, with the F-150 Harley-Davidson edition, Taurus SHO, and Transit Connect. Mazda will show its happy-looking Miata.
In addition to the “big” reveals, many models shown at the Detroit auto show are expected to be transported to the Windy City, giving showgoers a chance to see these concept and production vehicles in person. For us, it means a chance to get better acquainted in a less-crowded setting.
Whatever the news may be, stay tuned for the latest insights from the field.
