General Motors has issued a reprieve for the Saab, extending the deadline for selling the Swedish division. GM had previously stated that it would sell or close the brand by year’s end. It looked like Saab was done for after Koenigsegg Group walked away from purchasing Saab and GM said there were issues with the bid from next-in-line Spyker Cars. Now, there is a ray of hope for Saab being reported by Automotive News, the Guardian, Reuters, and others.
Saab will reportedly restart some assembly lines to build ordered cars, rather than commence an immediate wind down. The brand remains on life support, along with an estimated 3,400 workers. Countless Saab owners and enthusiasts await the fate of their favored brand, while some are looking to road rally for the cause with a drive to Detroit.
