Video: Electric cars? They might be giants
Dec 17, 2009 12:42 PM
Electric cars are quite the buzz these days. Several automakers have recently announced plans to bring battery-powered vehicles to market soon, including Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Toyota. The recent LA Auto Show featured some coming electric vehicles, along with announcements from power companies about how motorists will need to adapt to a brave new plug-in world.

Indie rock band They Might Be Giants (TMBG), no strangers themselves to dialing into the cultural buzz of the moment, have gotten their act into the act with the recent release of their video, Electric Car.

In typical Giants fashion, the tune is a catchy, lightweight romp extolling the virtues of going electric. But beneath the upbeat lyrics, including the chorus “Let’s take a ride in an electric car. How can you deny an electric car” that’s been rattling around our engineers heads while driving a Mitsubishi I-MIEV the carmaker recently left in our hands, there is an undercurrent (sorry) of what the future may bring.

Daresay, the song is much more infectious than the meme-du jour Chevrolet Volt dance. Opine in the comments below.

As John and John of TMBG say, "Electric car, so good, so far."

We’ll see.
