Dual introduced a cradle for the iPod Touch at CES that adds GPS navigation capability. It includes a rechargeable battery and car windshield mount.
The XGPS300 GPS Navigation & Battery Cradle for iPod Touch is a compact device with a long name and a slick finish that smoothly integrates with the Apple device.
The XGPS300 includes a GPS receiver, and Dual’s NavAtlas app, which includes maps of the United States and Canada. The device and app provide turn-by-turn directions, along with other features typically found on standalone PNDs. The cradle also comes with an amplified speaker, audio out connection, and mini USB port.
Designed to be used in or out of the car, the cradle provides GPS location data to other location-based apps, including ones for hiking, golfing, social networking, and geocaching.
The XGPS300 goes on sale in February, with a retail price of $179.99. The NavAtlas app will be available through the iTunes store for free.
This approach is similar in concept to the TomTom Car Kit for iPhone we recently tested.
