In the crowded halls at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), there are hidden many intriguing new gizmos and gadgets. One that has caught our eye is the Pocket Radar, a handheld radar that makes speed measurement affordable and convenient.
Priced at $199, Pocket Radar would enable users to measure the speed of a ball during sports, a runner, bicycle, or car. One fun application would be to measure the speed of race cars as they zoom by.
Pocket Radar has shrunken Doppler radar technology down to the size of a cell phone (4.7 by 2.3 inches). The proprietary engineering makes this the world’s most compact speed radar device, according to the company. It is reportedly accurate within one mph, and it can clock from seven to 375 mph. The display can be switched to kph, with a range of 11 to 600 kph.
Operation is simple. Take it out, press button, and read the display--akin to spot-temperature tools. The Pocket Radar powers off automatically. It can take 10,000 measurements from one pair of AAA batteries, and it weighs 4.5 ounces with the batteries installed.
The Pocket Radar goes on sale March 2010.
