Last week we reported that incentives were being offered to Toyota owners if they trade in their vehicle for a GM or Ford model. Now, other automakers trying to capitalize on Toyota’s woes.
On Friday, Hyundai announced a program just for this past weekend of $1,000 rebates on Sonata, Elantra and Elantra Touring for customers who trade in their Toyotas. Chrysler has also followed suit and until March 1st is offering a $1,000 trade-in bonus for Tundra, Tacoma, and Sienna owners. They also announced a $1,000 bonus for Toyota leasees who purchase a new Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge or Ram truck.
Chrysler is trying to leverage their pickup truck and minivan line by promoting the Dodge Ram and Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country minivans. (Note that the Sienna minivan hasn’t been included in either recent Toyota recall.)
Honda has specifically announced they will not offer any incentives to lure away Toyota customers. We’ll see if other automakers jump on the bandwagon.
