Last week we reported that incentives were being offered to Toyota owners if they trade in their vehicle for a GM or Ford model. Now, other automakers trying to capitalize on Toyota’s woes.
Toyota has launched a voluntary safety recall on approximately 7,300 early-production, four-cylinder 2010 Camrys that may have been fitted with a wrong-sized power steering hose. The recall involves a hose inspection to check for possible contact with a front brake tube. This contact could lead to a hole in the brake tube and cause a brake fluid leak, increased brake pedal stroke, and greater vehicle stopping distance.
Owners will soon be notified by mail, starting in the middle of February.
This recall notice was issued as part of an announcement of a Prius and Lexus HS 250h recall to update brake software.
Lurking in the wings is a potential issue with the Corolla. Automotive News and BusinessWeek report that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is looking into complaints regarding the electric steering system in 2009-2010 Corollas. A determination has not been made if NHTSA will launch a formal investigation.
