New recalls for the 2010 Porsche Panamera, 2003 Toyota Sequoia, and 2010 Volvo XC90 have just been announced. If you own one of these affected vehicles, the manufacturer should contact you within the next few weeks. Recall work is performed free of charge, and we urge you to have the necessary work done as soon as possible. If you have questions, customer-service phone numbers are listed below for each of the automakers.
2010 Porsche Panamera
S, 4S, and Turbo Panamera sedans are being recalled because under certain conditions a seatbelt mount could detach from its anchoring system, possibly leading to inadequate passenger protection in a crash. According to the recall summary, the problem can occur when a front seat is adjusted to an extreme position and the seatbelt is fastened or opened. As a remedy, dealers will install an additional locking element on the seatbelt anchoring system for both front seats.
Porsche has not announced when owners will be notified, but owners can contact the company at 1-800-545-8039. The recall involves about over 3,100 vehicles.
2003 Toyota Sequoia
Toyota is recalling about 50,000 2003 Sequoia SUVs to upgrade the software in the vehicle’s electronic stability control (ESC) system (which Toyota calls Vehicle Stability Control). Without the upgrade, when the Sequoia accelerates from a stopped position, the ESC system could activate at a low speed (about 9 mph) for a few seconds, which could cause slower acceleration than the driver expects.
Although notices won’t begin going out to owners until late May, about half of the recalled vehicles have already been fixed, according to Toyota. That’s because the company published a Technical Service Bulletin in the fall of 2003, after the problem was identified, and dealers have been replacing the system’s electronic control unit in affected vehicles to address individual owner concerns. Toyota will reimburse owners who have already paid to have this work performed.
According to Toyota, there have been no reported injuries or accidents as a result of this problem. More information and FAQs are available on Toyota’s Web site, and owners can call Toyota’s customer relations office at 1-800-331-4331.
2010 Volvo XC90
Almost 2,500 2010 XC90 SUVs are being recalled because of a possible fuel-line leak that could lead to a fire. The leak can occur between the line and its connector near the right front wheel. Volvo says that a fuel odor may be detected if a leak has occurred. Notices are expected to go out to owners during May.
Dealers will inspect the date code printed on the fuel line and, if it is within the recalled range, replace the fuel line. Owners can contact Volvo at 1-800-458-1552.
