Correctly and securely installing a safety item as important as a child seat in a vehicle should be easy, but unfortunately, that’s not always the case. As part of our ongoing road tests, we test fit child seats in every one of the vehicles we test. We’ve found some cars make the job much easier than others.
So for all you car-shopping parents, we’ve put together lists of vehicles in various sizes that make it easiest to properly and securely install infant and convertible child seats. When shopping for a family-friendly car, make sure you also think about vehicle height, as well as interior space. Vehicles that don’t require lifting or bending make it easiest to get the kids and all of their stuff in and out. We’ve found minivans and small SUVs are the best height for most people, and easiest on their backs. All vehicles listed below are Consumer Reports recommended, meaning they scored well in our testing, have had average or better reliability, and performed well in government or insurance industry crash tests.
