Subaru has announced recalls on the 2010 Subaru Legacy and Outback, and Toyota has issued both a recall and a stop sale on the Lexus HS 250h hybrid. If your vehicle is affected, the manufacturer should notify you of the recall and fix the problem at no charge. Customer-service phone numbers are listed below. You can also see other recent recalls

2010 Lexus HS 250h

Toyota is recalling 17,000 2010 Lexus HS 250h hybrids due to a problem with the fuel system that occurred during a compliance test conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The test involved striking a vehicle with a barrier from behind at 50 mph. The force rotated the vehicle and the fuel spillage that resulted exceeded the standard requirement limits. In an actual crash, the fuel spill could cause a fire if it is near an ignition source.

Toyota had conducted the same tests during the vehicle’s development and found it complied with the government standard. The company is now looking into the discrepancy between their test and NHTSA’s. Until a remedy is found, dealers will not deliver any new Lexus HS vehicles from their inventory.

2010 Subaru Legacy and Outback

Subaru is recalling certain 2010 Legacy and Outback models (built between February 16, 2009 and April 12, 2010) due to a broken wire in the flat electrical cable of the steering roll connector. If your vehicle is affected, it can cause a problem in the operation of the air bag, paddle shifters, horn, and/or steering wheel-mounted audio controls, which, in turn, can increase the risk of a crash. Subaru says that there have been no reported injuries or deaths related to this problem.

Dealers will replace the roll connector on affected vehicles with a new one, free of charge. Subaru expects to begin contacting owners on or around July 1, 2010. Call Subaru at 1-800-782-2783 for more information.
