Red card: Chrysler FIFA World Cup ad misplaces Challenger factory

The ad concludes with a voice-over saying, "There's a couple of things that America got right: Cars and freedom."
OK, fine. But Chrysler got one thing wrong. The flag-waving implication is that the Challenger is American. It is as American as a Mercedes-Benz-sourced LX platform car produced in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, by a company with 10-percent Canadian government and 20-percent Italian corporate ownership.
The commercial is beautifully filmed, and the image of three threatening black Challengers tearing through the wilderness toward the Brits is memorable. Supporting the U.S. team in the World Cup against England is honorable, as the rivalry has such a great back story. But we don't see how cars and freedom reflect the soccer match.
Speaking of FIFA World Cup, here's something else America got right, calling the game soccer. Millions of NFL fans can't be wrong.
