New reports following Monday’s death of celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Frank Ryan reveal that he was texting and driving minutes before the deadly crash.

Ryan’s 1995 Jeep Wrangler went off the side of the Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu, California and landed on the roof. His dog was also in the car and was rescued in the ocean. Before the crash he had Tweeted that he had just hiked up to the top of a sand dune and posted a picture of his dog on the dune.

Ryan was famous for transforming the body of actress Heidi Montag, as well as other notable celebrities such as Gene Simmons and Janice Dickinson.

This tragic accident serves as another reminder of the deadly effects of texting while driving. California is one of 30 states, plus the District of Columbia that have banned the practice.

A recent study found that adults are just as distracted as teens on the road, so the message is the same for all ages: hang up and drive for your safety and others who share the road. Whatever the call or the text says, it can wait until you’ve safely pulled off the road.
