2010-BMW-1series

A few recalls have been announced recently affecting BMW, Mazda, and Nissan vehicles. If your model is listed here, the manufacturer should notify you of the recall and provide the fixes at no charge. Customer-service phone numbers are listed below, if you have questions.

2008-2011 BMW 1 Series

BMW is expanding an earlier action to recall 38,000 1 Series coupes and convertibles sold in the United States, with model years 2008 to 2011.

The affected vehicles have insufficient clearance between the seatbelt tensioners in the B-pillar and the insulating material surrounding it. In the event of a crash, the insulation could become overheated and catch fire.

Owners will be notified to bring their vehicle to BMW dealers to fix the problem. Dealers will trim the insulating material around the seat belt retractors free of charge. Contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417.

2007-2009 Mazda3 and Mazda5

Mazda is recalling certain Mazda3 and Mazda5 vehicles due to a problem of a sudden loss of electric power steering, which would reduce the driver’s ability to steer the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.

Mazda will notify owners to bring in their vehicles for repair. Due to a short supply of parts, the first phase of mailing letters will begin on or before September 15th, with a second phase spanning through February 2011. Contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500.

2010 Nissan Armada

Nissan is recalling 174 Armada SUVs manufactured in June because they fail to comply with government seating standards. The second-row center seat hinge was built out of specification and may prevent the rear center seatback from locking in an upright position, which could increase injury in the event of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and if needed, replace the center seat hinge or lock.

Nissan will notify owners starting late August. Contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

2010 Nissan Frontier

Nissan is recalling about 950 Frontier trucks due to a problem with the child seat tether anchor. The vehicles fail to comply with the government safety standards and the tether anchor could separate from the vehicle seat and increase the risk or injury in the event of a crash.

Nissan will replace the seat gusset that contains the tether free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on or before September 1st. Contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
