Hyundai is recalling 1,783 Sante Fe SUVs built between September 28, 2010 and November 25, 2010 due to a problem with the rear brake calipers. The calipers may not have been properly machined and as a result brake fluid will leak. This will cause a dashboard malfunction light to indicate the fluid level is low and should be checked. The brake pedal could also feel soft or spongy. All this could cause reduced braking power and increase the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the rear calipers and replace free of charge. Owners can contact Hyundai at 1-800-243-7766.
This recall follows a similar one announced last week on the Sante Fe’s cousin the Kia Sorento.
