This Valentine’s Day we’re all for displays of affection, but not behind the wheel. An interview-based survey by GfK Roper, a division of GfK Custom Research North America, found that 29 percent of drivers admit to kissing behind the wheel. Oddly, for those who earn more money and have a higher education, that number climbs to 39 percent.

Overall, the study conducted last fall found 93 percent of drivers are distracted behind the wheel, which could mean kissing or other more common forms of distraction such as texting, talking on a cell phone, eating, or playing with the radio. Anything that takes your mind off the task of driving is considered a distraction.

Research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that distracted driving caused 5,500 deaths and 448,000 injuries in 2009.

Show your love for life: Keep your eyes on the road and lips to yourself when behind the wheel.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
