General Motors has learned to transform product placement into sales, with decades of on-screen excitement in “Smokey and the Bandit,” “The Matrix,” and “Transformers” series driving showroom traffic. The automaker will prove once again that there is more than meets the eye as it offers a 2012 Chevrolet Transformers Special Edition Camaro timed with the release of “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.”
Chevrolet offered a Transformers packaged on the 2010 Camaro, supporting the “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” film with a logo-emblazoned special edition. The tradition continues with the new offering, again celebrating the role of the popular Autobot “Bumblebee.” (Read: “Attention Earthlings: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Transformer Special Edition.”)
The 2012 Transformers Special Edition package ($3,000) is available on 2LT and 2SS Camaro Coupes with Rally Yellow paint. To give the coupe the distinctive appearance, the Transformers-inspired car will feature black stripes that run over the hood, roof, decklid, and rear spoiler; 20-inch, black-painted wheels; high-performance summer tires; and Autobot logos on the center caps and front quarter panels.
The cabin is finished with leather upholstery accented with yellow stitching on the instrument panel, center console, armrests, and seats. Autobot shield logos are embroidered on the front headrests, as well as the center console lid.
To further dress up the car, 21-inch, black-painted wheels and a black ground-effects package will be available as dealer-installed options.
Though not an inexpensive cosmetic package, the Transformers Special Edition is certain to appeal to kids of all ages.
Dealerships will begin taking orders in July, with deliveries scheduled to begin in September.
