Volvo and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration today announced the recall of 8,406 2007 S80 cars due to a possible power steering fluid problem that could increase the risk of crash.
The cars being recalled were manufactured between March 8, 2006 and May 16, 2007. Volvo said the power steering reservoir return hose in those vehicles may have been incorrectly routed, which could lead to increased pressure in the power steering system. The increased pressure could cause the return hose to burst at the steering gear, resulting in a loss of power steering fluid.
A Volvo spokesperson estimated that about 6 percent of the recalled vehicles are expected to have the defect, but that the company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue at this time, according to Reuters.
Volvo said that the recall is expected to begin in August and that Volvo dealers will inspect the return hoses and make repairs as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Volvo at 1-201-768-7300 with any questions.
