Evolve: New electric motor scooters charging to market
Oct 7, 2011 12:15 PM

Newly launched Evolve Motorcycles has unveiled a lineup of stylish electric motor scooters promising lower prices and better range than competitors. These efficient machines will be backed with customer support through a downloadable smart phone app that offers everything from charging locations to social networking opportunities with other owners.

Aimed at young urbanites looking for simple yet chic transportation, Evolve appropriately enough chose the penthouse suite of a simple yet chic lower Manhattan gallery for the scooters’ debut last night, high above the stomping grounds of their target demographic.

Three models were shown, all of which are designed to carry two passengers. Power comes from lithium-ion batteries with a claimed 2.5-hour charging time on standard household current. Full suspensions and front and rear disc brakes are standard.

Evolve-Helium-electric-scooter.jpgHelium ($2,900) is the entry-level model, and the smallest and lightest of the bunch. It has a claimed 40-mile range, 40 mph top speed, and rides on 10-inch wheels. Power comes from a 1500w motor and 40ah battery, and weight is 229 lbs.

Neon ($3,900) has a higher top speed of 50 mph, and a 50-mile range. It gets a 3000w motor and a 60ah battery, and weighs in at 270 lbs. Wheels are 12-inch.

Titanium ($5,400) tops out the line, with a claimed 70-mph top speed and 60-mile range. The motor is 5000w, and it uses a 60ah battery. Wheel size is increased to 13 inches, and weight is 382 lbs.

Assembly will be at the new Evolve facility in New Jersey, and a dealer network is being put together now. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in December of this year. Contrary to other electric scooter attempts, the Evolve line parallels conventional scooter pricing, making it a more viable alterative.
