Today Ford announced on Facebook that it will begin taking orders for its upcoming electric Focus next Wednesday.
The electric Focus is scheduled to go on sale in December in California and New York. Ford has not announced a price. But with a claimed 100-mile range from its lithium batteries, and a five-door hatchback body style, the Focus EV will compete directly with the Nissan Leaf, which sells for $32,780. Both cars are eligible for a $7,500 federal tax credit. One feature the Focus will boast over the Leaf is a faster on-board charger. Ford has also announced that it will sell a portable 240-volt charger separately for $1,400.
