Ford Transit Connect Electric to be offered as passenger-ready wagon
Nov 16, 2011 2:45 PM

One electric vehicle on the market that has been frequently overlooked was also the first: the Ford Transit Connect electric van. That was probably because it only came as a cargo van, with only two front seats. Well, that’s about to change.

Ahead of the LA Auto Show, Azure Dynamics, the company that converts the standard Transit Connect to battery power for Ford, announced it will build a new five-passenger version of the van, complete with rear side windows.

Like the cargo version, the passenger Transit Connect will be aimed at commercial customers. But that doesn’t mean that ordinary consumers looking for a larger electric car than the Nissan Leaf couldn’t buy one. Unfortunately, though, they’d be constrained by the same limited 80-mile range (probably less in the real world) as the electric Transit Connect cargo van.
