One of the best known, and certainly one of the best-selling, Dodge nameplates is making a comeback: Dart. Chrysler has begun teasing the release of an all-new 2013 Dodge Dart to be revealed at the Detroit auto show next month.
The new Dart will be built on a widened-and-stretched platform from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, another car in parent corporation Fiat's portfolio. The Dart will have a choice of three four-cylinder engines: a 2.4-liter from the Avenger, a 2.0-liter from the Caliber, and a turbocharged version of the 1.6-liter engine in the Fiat 500. Horsepower ranges from about 155 to 170, and likely be matched to a choice between manual, automatic or CVT transmission.
The Giulietta has been critically acclaimed in Europe, so we’re looking forward to sampling the new Dart.
Dodge promises to release more photos leading up to the Detroit unveiling, and we’ll post the latest in our New Car Preview.
