The Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid is no longer a “nearly $100,000 car.” It’s now an “over $100,000 car.” The company is raising the price of the “base” Karma (aka the Eco Standard) from $95,900 originally to $102,000 starting Thursday.

Customers who have put deposits on the Karma will be locked in at the original price as long as they finalize their orders by January 15, 2012. Fisker spokesman Roger Ormisher says that so far the company has delivered “dozens” of retail cars and has 1,200 produced or in production.

This move is reminiscent of the Tesla roadster’s incremental price increases a few years ago to the dismay of eagerly-waiting customers.

The top-of-the-line EcoChic trim level - with “animal-free premium EcoSuede interior” -will sell for $116,000.

The Karma Surf, a wagon variant with slightly more trunk space, will be offered as a 2013 model.
