The latest version Ford’s free SYNC Destinations app for cell phones will let SYNC Services subscribers send directions remotely to their vehicle from their smart phone using SYNC AppLink. Previously, users could only send directions to their car from a desktop computer or laptop.
In-car enhancements include the ability to get directions hands free on the go by using voice commands. Users can also ask for traffic conditions on the way to their destination, get incident notifications, and report incidents and delays they encounter along the way to other SYNC users. Ford says the traffic coverage includes every major highway, interstate, and city street in North America, and is provided by INRIX, which gathers and analyses data from more than 50 million vehicles.
The first of five apps Ford has promised to introduce at CES this year, updated SYNC Destinations rolls out in the iPhone app store first, and will be available on Android devices in the first quarter of 2012.
