Mercedes-Benz has introduced a revamped version of its mbrace telematics system, with additional features and services, enhanced smart phone-based remote access, and the ability for users to make cloud-based updates as they become available.

Now called mbrace2, the system will allow access to Facebook, Google search, stock information, news headlines, and Yelp reviews through the new internet-based Mercedes-Benz Apps, and is compatible with both iPhone and Android smart phones. Specifics of how much access drivers will have to these features while on the road has not been announced.

Users will also be able to remotely monitor and set travel zones, geo fences, speed alerts and curfew minders from their phones, check vehicle diagnostics, and remotely activate the horn and lights.

Existing safety, convenience, navigation and concierge services will continue with mbrace 2, some of which are free while others require a subscription.

Launching on the 2013 SL in spring 2012, mbrace2 will be standard on most 2013 models.
