Garmin navigation apps go social, prices drop for the holidays
Dec 18, 2012 9:00 AM

Garmin just introduced an update to it's smart-phone navigation apps that allows users stay connected while on the road and keep in touch with friends while traveling.

Joining the social networking scene, Garmin has partnered with location-sharing services Glympse and Foursquare, to let users share ideas about places to stop on the road and stay in touch with friends and family while traveling. (Of course, this is best done when not driving for obvious reasons.)

In addition, Garmin StreetPilot Onboard and Navigon for iOS will allow users to synch their favorite destinations across devices using iCloud.

The updates are free via Google Play and iTunes for users of Garmin Street Pilot and the Navigon navigation app.

In addition, the Garmin and Navigon applications are discounted 25 percent, now through January 7th. We've found these nav apps integrate well into the phones and mimic dedicated dashtop devices, making them a compelling alternative, especially when discounted.
