DTV dilemma: Do you need a converter box?
Apr 20, 2009 9:19 AM

Not sure if that old TV set in the basement is digital or not? Here's a quick and easy way to find out without digging up the user manual and scouring it for technical specs. Just enter the brand name and model number (usually noted on the back of the TV) at this Web site: http://www.dtvtransition.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=51&Itemid=94.

If your set doesn't have a digital tuner, and you want to continue getting signals from an antenna, you can connect the TV to a digital converter box. Visit our Guide to the DTV transitions and review our DTV converter box Ratings for more information.

You'll also find useful information on converter boxes and DTV in general at the DTV Transition hub (http://www.dtvtransition.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=26), which is sponsored by a consortium of business, trade, and industry groups.
