If you're planning to get your hands on a Palm Pre, the promising potential iPhone killer, be prepared to run down to you neighborhood Best Buy on June 7. BoyGeniusReport.com reports that 4,500 of these hot smart phones will be delivered to Best Buy Mobile locations across the country. Figure about one per store. The prices: $200 for new customers, $300 for existing customers who want to upgrade, and a whopping $1,000 for those who want a Pre with no strings attached—quite a markup for a phone iSuppli says costs only $170 to make.
Meanwhile the Pre's carrier, Sprint, seems to be shedding network infrastructure to lower costs. Engadget says Sprint is in talks with Ericsson to assume management and maintenance of what's left of its network, along 5,000 to 7,000 of employees. Sprint already sold most of its cell towers (about 3,300) to TowerCo last year. —Mike Gikas
