It's only a few weeks until the PMA camera trade show, which will take place in Anaheim, California from Feb. 21-23. Which means that camera manufacturers will be announcing many new cameras that will be entering their 2010 product lines. Today, it's Panasonic's turn: they announced four new higher-end Lumix point-and-shoots. Each new model has two more megapixels than the models they succeed. But more importantly, all include very wide-angle lenses: All models, except the rugged DMC-TS2 camera, include a 25mm wide-angle lens. The TS2 has a 28mm wide-angle.
The four new cameras include:
- The Lumix 14-megapixel DMC-ZR3, which has an 8x optical zoom lens.
- Two new 12-megapixel 12x optical zoom superzooms: The DMC-ZS7, which has a 3-inch LCD and a GPS feature (for geo-tagging photos and video). The DMC-ZS5 has a 2.7-inch LCD, but no GPS feature.
- They've also updated it's "tough" or "rugged" camera: the new 14-megapixel Lumix DMC-TS2 can now be taken further underwater (up to 33 feet) than its predecessor, the TS1. The TS2 also has a 4.6x optical zoom lens, the same as its predecessor.
All the cameras are also compatible with the new higher capacity, SDXC memory cards, which will eventually be able to store as much as 2 terabytes of data. And all four, excepting the ZR3, include a high dynamic mode that aims to increase the details in both brightly lit and shadow areas. All but the ZS5 also include the ability to shoot AVCHD Lite videos, which allow the capture of 720p high-definition video.
The company did not announce prices or when the products would be available.
