Charging the iPad: Hit or miss
Apr 3, 2010 12:18 PM

If you're used to charging your phone, music player, or device in the USB port of your computer, take note. So far, we've been unable to charge our iPads in any USB port on a non-Apple Computer. Apple Tech Support has told us that the iPad is designed for the 10W AC adapter that comes with it, so if you want to use anything else, all bets are off.

We've tried charging our iPads in several places today. Here's what's worked and what hasn't.

Places where the iPad was able to charge (other than a wall outlet): Rear USB port on a 27-inch iMac desktop; USB port on a MacBook Pro laptop.

Here's where the iPad  did not charge: Front and rear USB ports on a variety of Windows computers; USB port on an Apple wired keyboard attached to an iMac.

If you've got additional information on where the iPad can or can't charge, share it below.
