The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play smart phone, coming to Verizon this spring for an undisclosed price, promises to take mobile gaming to the next level.

Powered by the latest version of the Android platform (Gingerbread version 2.3) and equipped with a 4-inch multi-touch display, this PlayStation-certified Play will come with dedicated gaming controls that include four-way directional keys, clearly marked ABCD keys with PlayStation iconography, left/right shoulder keys, and two analog touch inputs for joystick action.

The phone's Snapdragon 1Ghz processor Adreno 205 graphical processor, the maker says, will help the phone deliver a dynamic gaming experience at 60 frames per second. The Play will also sport a 5-megapixel camera.

Sony Ericsson will offer more than 50 top game titles available at launch, and the phone itself will come preloaded with Asphalt Adrenaline 6, Bruce Lee, Star Battalion, The Sims 3, and Tetris.
