Choose your carrier advisedly for the 3G Apple iPad 2

When Apple's Steve Jobs unveiled the iPad 2 tablet last week, he mentioned that—unlike the first AT&T-only iPad—the 3G version would be available with a choice of networks: AT&T or Verizon. The statement was a little vague and open to interpretation, though: Some observers thought that the device might be carrier-agnostic, at least between those two. Unhappy with AT&T? Switch to Verizon, or vice versa.

Just to clarify, that's not the case. When you purchase an iPad 2, you choose a carrier, and you'll not be able to switch later on. From the Apple Store website: "Select the model that corresponds with the carrier you'd like to use for 3G service. The iPad you choose is configured to work only with one carrier."
