If you're tired of your old mouse and keyboard, or you're just looking to trade up to models with newer features such as wireless or solar power, Logitech is rolling out a trade-in program that lets you earn up to a 35 percent discount off your new purchase.

You can get the details of the program, which is actually administered by recycling company CExchange, on Logitech's website. But basically, here's how it works: First, you visit Logitech's trade-in website, where you list the gear you want to trade in.

You then enter your shipping info to print out a prepaid return shipping label from CExchange. (You'll need to register with CExchange to get an account.) You'll get a discount code that can be applied to the price of a new keyboard, mouse, or trackball that you purchase from Logitech.com. Then just pack up your old gear and ship it to CExchange, where it will be refurbished and sold or properly recycled.

According to the fine print, it looks like the program runs for just this month; online trade-in submissions must be received by March 31, 2011, and new purchases using the discount have to be made by April 30th. And the offer can't be combined with any other discounts or offers. It appears that the highest discount—35 percent—applies to the purchase of a Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX, which is priced at $38.99, down from $59.99.

If you decide to check out this offer, let us know how it went. We're always looking for good deals as well as easy ways to properly dispose of older gear. Get more tips on electronics recycling at Consumer Reports Online.
