Are you in the habit of regularly updating your browser of choice? If you're an Internet Explorer user, Microsoft wants to encourage that habit: The company has launched a campaign website, Internet Explorer 6 Countdown, with the aim of bringing users off the decade-old version IE 6. The site shows a map of IE 6 usage around the world, which is down to 12 percent globally as of this past February.
"It's time to say goodbye," says MS. "This website is dedicated to watching Internet Explorer 6 usage drop to less than 1% worldwide, so more websites can choose to drop support for Internet Explorer 6, saving hours of work for web developers."
Why is it important to upgrade your browser, beyond saving Web developers a lot of time? Mainly because new versions are faster and more secure—and they offer more features (tabs, anyone?). If you're still not convinced, here's a features chart comparing Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8.
