Amazon today revealed that Kindle owners will have free access to borrowing e-books from over 11,000 libraries later this year, eliminating a major reason not to buy a Kindle. Other e-book readers, including Barnes & Noble's nook line, have long been offering this feature.

Library Lending will work with all generations of Kindles as well as with the Kindle reading apps, which are available on the Android, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, PC, Mac, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone devices. And conveniently, all your annotations and bookmarks are saved if check an e-book out again or buy it from Amazon.

As for timing, look for the Kindle Library Lending to arrive “later this year.”
