If several reports today are accurate, Nintendo fans will soon have something to celebrate: a new gaming console. Game Informer wrote this morning that the company will announce a new system at the E3 2011 gaming conference in June. From the story:
We have confirmed with multiple sources that this new home system is capable of running games at HD resolutions. There are conflicting reports, however, as to whether its graphics will be comparable to those on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 - meaning it could surpass or fall short of those systems.
Additionally, game website CVG reports that its sources say the unnamed console is “set to utilise an entirely new controller” that will feature a built-in HD screen.
It’s been almost 5 years since the Nintendo Wii was launched along with its revolutionary wireless motion-based Wii Remote. Since then, the competing Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation consoles showed up on the gaming scene, and both those systems now have motion-based gaming too, as well as superior graphics. But Nintendo has a way of surprising its competition with its innovation (the handheld Nintendo 3DS is a case in point), so we look forward to seeing what the company actually will bring to E3.
If it’s a new console, rest assured that we’ll be testing it!
