As we noted earlier this week, the majority of many major TV brands' 2011 lineups are now 3D models, and Sony is no exception: 23 of its 37 new Bravia LCD sets, which are available starting this month, are 3D-capable models.
Like some other major brands, including Panasonic and Samsung, Sony is sticking with active 3D TV models this year, with no announced plans to offer passive 3D TVs.
Sony has also expanded its Bravia Internet Video online service to nearly 90 percent of the new sets, and the company has added some new features and content. For example, the new Internet-capable TVs have upgraded Netflix software with enhanced browsing and access to instant streaming TV shows and movies using the TV's remote. Other enhancements include an expanded Yahoo apps store, plus access to services such as Crackle (free Hollywood movies and TV shows), Moshcam (full-length live music concerts), Billabong (worldwide snow, surf, and skate action), and Hulu Plus (subscription TV service).
Step-up and flagship models also get some new features designed to boost performance. For example, some new higher-end sets use a new full-array LED backlight with local dimming (called Intelligent Peak LED backlights), and a new anti-blur technology called MotionFlow XR.
