More than 5 million online U.S. households experienced abuse of some kind on Facebook in the past year, according to a report just published in the June issue of Consumer Reports..
Those abuses include virus infections and identity theft. In addition, more than a million children experienced bullying on Facebook. Other State of the Net findings include:
- 1.6 million active Facebook members were infected with malware because of an app they’d downloaded from Facebook.
- Nearly 780,000 were harassed or threatened.
- More than 900,000 shared an invitation with friends that turned out to be a scam.
More of the survey results and advice on how to protect yourself can be found in the report, the June issue of Consumer Reports, and at ConsumerReports.org.
