Want to stay current on news wherever you may roam? Google’s adding a mobile component to “News near you,” its location-based news service: It will bubble up news that’s “relevant to the city you’re in and surrounding areas.”
The mobile version of "News near you" is available now. To use it, just direct your Android smart phone or iPhone browser to the Google News site. A pop-up asks whether you want to share your location. Say “yes,” and a news section stocked with stories about wherever you happen to be will appear at the bottom of the Google News screen.
Considering all the noise recently around location tracking on mobile phones, know that it’s easy to turn off this feature: You can either hide the "News near you" section through the personalization page or turn off “Enable location” in your browser’s settings.
