CEA Line Show: nPower Peg lets your body charge your devices
Jun 22, 2011 2:30 PM

Charging on the go was never quite so literal: Pop an nPower PEG into your pocket or backpack and walk, trot, or run. The kinetic-powered device builds up a charge in its battery just from your movement and is ready to recharge your mobile devices when you need it.

Says the company: It's "a smart device which automatically senses your activity, adapts to it, and optimizes energy harvesting." In emergencies, you can shake it vigorously to produce some quick power.

First introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show last January, the device isn't incredibly portable, as you can see from the picture. The company rep at nPower's booth told me that it's scalable, though: You can make a PEG small enough to power a pacemaker. This particular PEG is the company's first product, so it'll be interesting to see what else they come up with.

The PEG is currently back-ordered, but you can reserve one at nPower's site; they go for $159.99.
