Need additional proof that 3D TV is more than a fad? Westinghouse Digital, a value-priced brand that tends not to be at the cutting edge of technology, has decided to enter the 3D TV fray with its first model, which uses passive 3D technology.
The set, a 47-inch 1080p Internet-connected model (W47S2TCD) with access to streaming movies from Netflix and Vudu, has 120-Hz technology and comes with four sets of passive polarized 3D glasses. The 3D TV, which joins other passive 3D sets from LG and Vizio, will carry a suggested retail price of $1,200. Westinghouse TVs are typically found at retailers such as Best Buy, Costco, and Target.
We expect to get a first-hand look at this and other new Westinghouse TVs at the CE Week/Digital Downtown industry trade show in New York City later this week. In addition to its 3D set, Westinghouse will also be showing a new 60-inch 1080p LCD TV (VR-6025Z), two new energy-efficient mid-sized sets (the 42-inch LD-4258 and the 40-inch LD-4070Z) with LED backlights and 120-Hz technology, plus a smaller, ultra-thin (1 inch deep at the edges), 24-inch, LED-backlit, 1080p LCD TV designed for dorm rooms, offices, and other small rooms.
We'll be filing reports from the CE Week event later in the week, so keep checking back here for updates.
