UPDATE: We did hear from a Best Buy spokesperson that they expect to fulfill all iPhone 4S pre-orders within the next 21 days.
Regardless of a $50 deposit and implied promises of easy pickup once the phone hit store shelves last Friday, (Oct. 14), some consumers are reporting that they have yet to get any notification about when they might get their pre-ordered Apple iPhone 4S, now one week after the expected delivery date.
It appears that Best Buy cannot fill its pre-orders yet because the actual phones have yet to arrive at stores. Meanwhile, the store's Facebook page and website comments page are getting hit with complaints from customers who pre-ordered their iPhones from Best Buy stores in multiple states, including Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and Virginia, among others.
One of Consumer Reports' staffers said that she put down a $50 deposit and was told she would get an e-mail telling her to pick up her new iPhone 4S last Friday. Today, Best Buy sent her the following Facebook message in response to one of her queries:
We do understand the frustration with not getting any information on when your iPhone 4S will be available. Please be assured this is also frustrating to us, as we would love to be able to provide more information. Unfortunately, as we do rely on Apple to deliver the phones to us, we don't have any other information we can provide. When the iPhones arrive at the store, they will be sold in the order they were pre-ordered.
According to King5News of Seattle and tech news site GizmoCrunch, Best Buy is not saying how many orders it has left unfulfilled, but that as of this past Monday it has stopped taking pre-orders for the phone.
Our own calls to Best Buy were not returned before press time, but it appears from some customer complaints that they are being told at various stores to expect their phones to arrive at the end of the month, October 28 or October 30th.
Did you pre-order an iPhone 4S from Best Buy? Do you have your phone in hand now, or are you still waiting?
