CES 2012: Vizio to enter PC market with desktops and ultrabooks
Jan 7, 2012 4:15 PM
Vizio 14” Thin + Light Notebook

Electronics maker Vizio is making some noise ahead of the din of next week's 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show: The company has confirmed that it is entering the PC market, with two all-in-one desktops and three laptops that have a focus on delivering entertainment.

The two all-in-one desktops (computers with all components built into the monitor's case) will come with either a 24- or 27-inch screen. One laptop will have a 15.6- inch screen, and two ultra-thin versions come with either a 15.6-inch or 14- inch screen. (We expect this type of laptop, referred to by many as ultrabooks based on a spec from Intel, will be a major trend at this year's show.) All the new Vizio machines will deliver audio and video to the company's TVs and speakers.

Vizio CTO Matt McRae told Bloomberg that the computers will go on sale by June at a “a price that just doesn’t seem possible.” We're sure he means prices will be very low.

The company made a similar stir at last year's CES, when it introduced its first cell phone and tablet.
