About 48,000 Digital Concepts Compact Travel Chargers are being recalled by Sakar International Inc. of Edison, N.J. The rechargeable battery chargers can fall apart, exposing consumers to the internal components which pose an electrocution or electric shock hazard says the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The safety recall affects silver-colored battery chargers with a sticker which says "Digital Concepts" and "Compact Travel Charger." The chargers, designed to hold two AA or AAA batteries, have model numbers CH-1600S and CH-1600-RS and a date code of MID#: 0801110. Both numbers can be found on the white label on the underside of the charger. Also on the underside are three screws and a retractable power plug.
The rechargeable battery chargers were sold at Cobra Digital, Lot-Less, Ocean State Jobbers and RadioShack from January 2011 through February 2012 for about $10.
There have been no reports of injuries from the defective battery chargers. However, the CPSC advises consumers to stop using the recalled battery charger immediately and contact Sakar International Inc. (toll-free: 877-397-8200 or website: www.sakar.com/recall) for a replacement product.
