Color for Facebook, announced today at CTIA Wireless, offers one of the fastest ways I've seen to shoot, caption, tag, and upload a 30-second video to Facebook for your friends to enjoy. Color is free to owners of Android and iPhone smart phones on the Verizon network.
The app also lets you batch-upload photos, and you can easily grab photos already stored in your phone. Another version of Color is available for smart phones on other carriers, but Verizon's version is the only one to support sound.
I've been using Color on my Droid Razr, and I've found it quite intuitive. There's just one button to push for each of the three things the app does: Broadcast (for videos), Take a Photo, and Upload Photos. And before you beam your video or photo up to the Facebook cloud, you can adjust the sharing options (public, friends only, and so on).
The app also uses Facebook notifications to tell your friends what you're up to. But friends who have Color on their phones will be able to watch the video as you're shooting it—before you post it to Facebook.
On the downside, the videos are compressed to VGA quality to expedite uploads, so they'll appear a little rough on phones with larger, high-resolution screens.
