The $79 Amazon Kindle e-book reader is now $69
Sep 6, 2012 2:15 PM

At the Amazon press event today, the company dropped the price of its least expensive Kindle e-book reader by $10, to $69—making it the least expensive quality e-book reader on the market.

The device, now called the "$69 Kindle," will also turn pages 15 percent faster, says Amazon, and include new fonts (probably the six now included with the new Kindle Paperwhite, I am assuming) and crisper text.

This Kindle does not have a touchscreen, but uses controls for page turns. Look for the lower-price Kindle to ship September 14.
